Oh My Freaking Goodness, and Also, Holy Cow

I FINALLY picked a song to walk down the aisle to. You have no idea how much this was stressing me out. I searched and downloaded, and asked people, and listened to SO much music. And a lot of it was nice, and pretty, and almost perfect, but it didn't have that "je ne sais quoi" quality about it.

That literally translates to: "I don't know what." But it really means that there is that special something that you can't really define that makes it perfect.

And I finally found that song. I was beginning to think that I would have to use my backup music: the same music my sister used. And while it was very pretty, I wanted to have my own music.

I've known what song the flower girl and ring bearer are walking down the aisle to for FOREVER. I recently picked the song that everybody else is walking down the aisle to. And it was quite an ordeal to get mine, and I didn't anticipate that it would be. But now it's done.

And I guess my blog from yesterday got me a few more rsvp's. ;) I won't lie: it occurred to me that that might happen. And I know that I'll probably end up calling people, and I don't mind. That was one thing that I did anticipate.

I've been procrastinating on a lot of wedding stuff. I'm down to all the random details that I don't really feel like planning anymore, but they have to get done. I told my sister today that I'm going to delegate a responsibility to her, since she's my maid of honor. Except she's married, so I guess that makes her the Matron of Honor. Do I HAVE to refer to her as that? Matron sounds so......old. But it is the proper term. Blegh.

Anyway, I told her that I would like her to order the flowers, since I'm ordering through Safeway, and their florist is only there, like 2 hours, every morning. And I'm kind of working every morning. But she's at home, and she has a phone.

Oh, and speaking of my sister, her birthday gift to me was to take me out for dinner. We went to Montana's this evening, and we both ordered the Buffalo Burger, which is the best. And I forgot to say thanks. Thanks Elleah. It was a really nice evening.

Anyway, this blog is way long, and I'm sleepy. I had a bath. Because my feet hurt. Because I worked today. Unpacking books. 8000 books, to be exact. I only got about a third of the way through. So I have at least two more days of that torture to look forward to. And then they all have to be cleaned.

But I'm not complaining, because I need money, and hey: I still love books.

Time's A'Ticken', People

As I type this, we are creeping up on the eleventh hour of May 30th. Tomorrow will be the last day of May, and after that? The first day of June. That's when I told people to RSVP by. June 1st.

We invited 157 people. 43% have rsvp'd. I'm kind of curious to see if I'm going to get a flood of rsvps over the next two days, and to see how many people I will have to call/email/facebook to see if they're coming.

Half of the guest list is comprised of people I'm related too. WAY less than half of them have rsvp'd. I guess they probably just assume that I know they're going to be there (and I hope that they are there), but it's nice when they make it official, because when the reception hall asks for numbers, they're going to need an official number.

**I just pray that none of my single cousins gets into a serious relationship in the next month, because I don't want to have to tell them that their significant others will not be attending my wedding.**

Also, I watched 27 Dresses tonight. I loved it. I will buy it. I will make Art watch it.

My Other Birthday?

I celebrated my birthday today, because everyone was busy yesterday evening. (Coincidentally, today my niece Kiera is exactly seven months. Go check out my sister's seven-month post.)

Elleah and Jared and Kiera came over, we had lasagna-in-a-slow cooker (best kind), strawberry and roasted almond salad with poppy seed dressing, garlic bread, and cherry cheesecake for dessert.

We also watched the movie Fracture, which is my most recent favorite movie. I've watched it three times in the past two weeks, and I still like it.

I got books and money for my birthday from my mom. Pretty much the best gifts ever. The money is in US cash, for our shopping trip to Grand Forks, which is coming up in about two weeks. I also got a gift card for Le Chateau, which is my favorite clothing store, and of course, it's freaking expensive.

That doesn't stop me from lusting over their clothes every time I walk past the store. But now I have a bit of money. Which MIGHT buy me one piece of clothing, depending on which piece I choose. If I go with pants, I'll have to supplement with my own money. If I go with a light sweater, I might be okay.

And do you know what else I've been busy with? Immigration paperwork, applying for Unemployment Insurance, and trying to convince Canada Revenue Agency that I don't owe them money - all at the same time. Is my head spinning yet? Oh yeah, and I still have a wedding to plan, and believe it or not, the wedding plans are not at the top of the list. I really need to get going on those again.

In any case, today was a good day; it actually felt like my birthday today, which was nice. Even if yesterday was my actual birthday.

May Baby

Well, today is my birthday. And it definitely doesn't feel like my birthday. Except when it comes to the weather. It's going to be 22 degrees and sunny today. The weather is ALWAYS nice on my birthday, with the exception of one year. I think the year I turned 21, the weather wasn't so nice. But every other year in all my 23 years, the weather has been beautiful on my birthday. May 28 is a good day to be born.

And Now That I'm Home...

I didn't sleep in today, and I'm glad. I'm too prone to sleep half the day away, just because I can. I got up, got ready, and headed over to the bookstore, to see if he had any work for me. There's nothing for me to do today, or tomorrow, but the shipment is coming in on Thursday, and then I'll have another week of work.

I headed back home (not empty-handed. Yes, I had more books with me. I have an addiction to feed!), and decided to use the rest of my day to unpack, clean up, and catch up on blog reading. I also prepared my photos, so hopefully you'll see the first batch online tomorrow. I haven't actually decided what I'm going to do.

I also spent a fair bit of time watching tv online. I heard about a website called surfthechannel.com, and they have almost every episode of every tv show ever. Not good for my computer potato status. (You know, like a couch potato, but instead of endless hours of tv, it's endless hours on the computer.)

And can I just say that today was a gorgeous day, and I basically missed it? Although I still have time to catch about an hour of evening sun. And there are finally leaves on the trees! I'm so happy! I remember thinking to myself on the day I left for my vacation: "It better look and feel like spring around here when I get back, or there is something seriously wrong with Mother Nature." And my wish came true! Although, it still doesn't compare with the weather on the west coast.

I picked the perfect week to be out there. Even when it was raining, it was a light misty rain, not at all depressing, and it was still warm! And everything out there is so lush and green! I can't wait to live there. I just can't wait.

P.S. My birthday is tomorrow. It hasn't really clicked yet that my birthday is tomorrow. I guess because I haven't really been thinking about it. I asked my mom what we're doing for my birthday, because I made ZERO plans. Elleah and Jared are coming over on Thursday (and Kiera of course), and my mom is making dinner. I guess I should tell her what I want.

I just don't care that much that my birthday is happening. I already feel 23. And.....maybe it's anticlimactic, since I just got home from an amazing vacation, and I really miss Art, and the first few days of separation are always a bummer. I hope I snap out of it.

Day 9: Take-Off

Monday: Art and Joe made breakfast for the ladies. As in myself and Art's sister Mary (who stayed the night). It was a nice treat for my last day. I also treated myself to not washing the dishes. (I was basically their housekeeper the whole time I was there.) Okay, that's not true, and even if it was, it was my own choice, and I didn't mind. :)

We watched another fight on tv, then we all went to Bob's Burgers for lunch. By "we all", I mean me, Art, Joe, Mary, Sozan, and Zana. Wayne joined us late. Zana really wanted to check out the place, as we kept telling him how amazing the burgers were, and then he didn't even get a burger. (Actually, none of us got a burger.) He got pie. Which is also pretty good. A slice of pie there is literally a quarter of a pie.

I got just fries, because I wasn't that hungry, and I love fries. (Not that it mattered that I wasn't hungry, because it was a huge serving of fries and I finished it anyway. With a little help.) Art got salad, which I'm pretty sure I've never seen him do before. He didn't even get any of those onion rings that he practically wants to marry.

It was a good farewell lunch, and Sozan got me a gift because my birthday is coming up! It was a really nice gesture, but then I felt dumb, because her birthday is soon after mine, and I didn't even think to get her anything.

After lunch, Art, Joe, Mary, and I stopped at the beach for about an hour. The tide was WAY out (like, a quarter mile), so of course, you have to take advantage of all the sand space. Joe and Art played frisbee, and Mary and I walked and watched, and I was snapping pictures. I got some pretty good action shots. After Art got all wet and dirty, we decided to head home.

I packed, and it was off to the airport. Like a herd of turtles. Like molasses in January. Like there was SO MUCH traffic, and we underestimated how long it would take to get there, and I was really worried that I was going to miss my flight.

I got there JUST before the estimated boarding time, so Art and didn't have a lot of time to say goodbye, which sucked. And then our plane was late and boarding happened really late, and had I known that, I could have stuck around a little longer. BUT: this is the last time we have to do this. The next time we see each other, we're leaving together.

I got into Winnipeg at 11:15pm, I got home at 12:20am, and don't think for a second that I bothered to unpack. I just rifled through my luggage so I could find some pajamas, and my stuff to take out my contacts. I even lay out the clothes I had been wearing, to wear the next day, because I was too tired to care about a different outfit.

And then it was time for a phone call to Art, because we're back to that again. The first couple are always hard, until I get used to it again. And falling asleep is also difficult, because I'm on west coast time. It really is easier to go 2 hours back than 2 hours ahead.

Only 52 more days to go.

May 26, 2008

Day 8: Date Night

Sunday: Art had to work in the morning, but Wayne and Sozan and Zana picked me up so I could go to church with them. It's a very small church, but the people were so friendly. And they had a bbq. Did I pick the perfect weekend or what?

They dropped me off at 1:00, Art got home around 2:00, and his parents got there shortly after. Art's younger sister was supposed to be with them, we were going to go dress shopping in Bellingham. But one of her friends called her, and they went shopping somewhere else. So Art and I entertained his parents until his sister got to his place.

They played Scrabble, and I sat at the computer looking up words for them (they didn't have a dictionary).

His sister got there around 7:00 in the evening, and Art and I got ready to go out on a date. My birthday is on Wednesday, so he said that we should do something to celebrate. We went to a lovely little restaurant in Bellingham called Mambo Italiano. I loooooooooove my Italian food.

It was a bit loud, and not dressy (we dressed up anyways). But it was a really nice evening. We ordered Tortellini and Lasagna, and we ate them together. We had crab cakes for an appetizer, and a chocolate torte for dessert. Art and I always have good food, and good dates, but this particular evening was perfection.

We got home full, and happy, and sleepy. I went to bed trying not to think about the fact that I was leaving the next day.

May 25, 2008

Day 7: Fight Night

Saturday: Slept in again, same old same old. We had an appointment with H&R Block at 1pm, then we had to got to the bank to do a couple of things, and we basically ran errands in Bellingham all afternoon. We did a bit of grocery shopping, and came home to clean the house and get ready.

Our guests showed up at around 6:00, and the fight started at 7:00.

What fight? Art likes UFC. Ultimate Fighting, and Saturday evening was the Championship fight. All his friends came over, we watched, we cheered for BJ Penn and he won. I didn't think I would like it at all, but I'm surprised how much I got into it. Maybe that's because I had someone to cheer for. Or because everybody else in the room was into it. I wouldn't watch it otherwise.

It was an alright fight night. I drank too much root beer (Thomas Kemper, the really good stuff).

Then it was off to bed early, because Art had to work in the morning.

May 24, 2008

Day 6: Asian Food

Day 6, Friday: Art had to work in the morning, and he asked me to go with him. In past vacations, I went to work with him every time he worked, because my vacations were short, so I wanted to spend every moment with him possible; even if it meant hanging around his job. But that's why I brought books.

I sat at spa reception for a while, talking with Sozan (pronounced Suzanne). Art's friend Wayne (that I mentioned yesterday) is also his coworker, a bellman at the resort. He is married to Sozan, and Sozan also works at the resort.

Once I get my greencard, I hope to work at the resort as well. So we'll all be couple friends, and couple coworkers. I like Sozan. I hope she's my new best friend out here. We're all the same age too.

So anyway, I hung out in the spa talking with her, and meeting some of the spa ladies. She gave me the official tour, and told me a little bit about what it's like to work there. Then I went to the main part of the resort, pulled out my book, and read for the next seven hours. They sell Starbucks in the gift shop, so I got myself a caramel steamer with extra caramel.

They have so many little nooks with comfy chairs and lamps to sit and read. I used the library this time. Art bought me breakfast: biscuits and gravy, and scrambled eggs, and fruit. It comes on a silver platter. Not joking. I took a picture, you'll get to see them eventually. I'll probably just do a whole blog of pictures when I get home.

At some point, Art also brought me free dessert. A chocolate mousse, covered in a layer of frozen chocolate, covered in whipped cream, and topped with a couple of white chocolate slivers. Served in a tall wine glass. Are you jealous yet? I eat so good when I'm out here.

In the evening, we all had plans to go out for Moshi Moshi. Everyone was pretty excited about it. It's this sushi place in Bellingham. It was me and Art, Wayne and Sozan, Sozan's brother Zana who had just flown in the night before from Texas, Wayne's younger sister Lydia, and her friend Kasha. Oh, Lydia and Kasha also work at the resort.

I was kind of excited and kind of nervous to try sushi for the first time. I even brought my camera to take a picture. Unfortunately, we were too big a group, and there was already a group there, we were hungry. We weren't going to wait an hour to eat. So I didn't have to try sushi after all.

We went to a Thai place instead, which was find by me, because I like Thai food. Their most outstanding feature? The bathroom sink. You'll have to wait for the picture.

After yummy Thai food, Art and I went to see Narnia: Prince Caspian. VERY GOOD MOVIE. I liked it a lot. Art did too, even though he wasn't so excited about seeing it at first. I kind of begged him, like the last movie we watched. Again, he was glad. See? Being a persistent brat pays off!

May 23, 2008

Day 5: Susie Homemaker

Thursday: I cleaned today. Art had to work 10-6, so after I slept in and watched a bit of tv (seriously, this is what happens when there's cable: suddenly I watch tv), I got down to business and I cleaned.

I washed the dishes (and there were a lot of dishes. It's amazing how messy these guys can get, even in one day). After the dishes, which I also dried and put away, I wiped the counter tops, stove top, bathroom sink and floor, folded Art's laundry, and tidied up. Then I moved the furniture and vacuumed. I was so proud of myself. I derive a lot of satisfaction from cleaning.

Then Art got home from work, and showed his appreciation by taking off his shoes and socks and spreading them around the living room floor. Then he cleaned them up.

Uh....we ate leftovers for dinner. And.....I can't remember what else we did. Art's friend Wayne came over to work out, and I watched. I didn't work out, even though I was supposed to.

That's it!

May 22, 2008

Day 4: R & R

Day 4, Wednesday: I got to relax. A LOT. I slept in, Art made me flapjacks for breakfast (none of those sissy pancakes, these things are the real deal). We watched a lot of tv (yay for cable), I worked out again. This time is wasn't so bad. Third day of working out was by far the easiest.

Art took me to an amazing restaurant, called Bob's Burgers. Don't be fooled by the name. It's not a greasy, fast food joint. It's a nice restaurant with BIG yummy burgers! You can get steak and seafood too. I wasn't terribly hungry, so we shared a teriyaki burger and onion rings.

Art is in love with the onion rings there. They're alright. I mean, they're the best onion rings I've ever had, but I'm not a big fan of onion rings. We had apple pie for dessert. It was the mother of all slices of pie. HUGE.

And then when we came home, we watched more tv. Pretty much the laziest day, but it was nice. It's my vacation. I'm allowed to be lazy.

And speaking of the weather: it's been nice here. It rained one day, but it was still warm. Even when it's cloudy, it's warm. I've got it made. :)

May 21, 2008

Day 3: I Thought It Was Supposed To Get Better

Day 3: I am really sore. But more about that later.

Art had to work early. I got to sleep in. I also got to watch tv (Art has cable). And I washed the dishes. Art had said he was going to come home early from work, so you can imagine my disappointment when I heard the door open, and Joe walked in. I tried not to show it, but I think Joe knew anyway. Art got home about 40 minutes later.

We all worked out again, which was less fun than the first time. Art really pushed me to finish the warm up, and I was not in the mood to be pushed. I know that this is good for me and all that, but it's HARD to do three rounds of ten push-ups when my shoulders are killing me.

But I grunted and groaned and yelled (I'm kind of loud when I work out, or at least when I'm exhausted and I'm trying to keep going), and I managed to finish.

Then it was dinner time (Art cooked spaghetti, and yes, it was fabulous). We rented the movie Fracture, which I had seen before and it is so amazing that I peer pressured Art into watching it, and now he's glad he did.

We were just getting ready for bed when he heard someone pounding on his door. It was one of his coworkers, saying that another coworker of theirs had just been burglarized, and she was scared and alone, so Shannon said she would fetch some boys (the cops were taking their time in getting to the scene).

Art and Joe and I all went there (we arrived just after the cops did) and hung out with the two girls while the cops did their thing. Once the girl had settled down and everything was taken care of, we left. Our early bedtime turned into about midnight:30 bedtime, but that's okay. Art is a good friend to his friends (and coworkers. Same thing).

Overall: It was alright, I guess. Here's hoping that Day 4 is better.

May 20, 2008

Day 2: The One Where I Realize All Over Again How Great Shopping Is In The States

Day 2 (Monday): I got to sleep in, and then Art made me eggs for breakfast. He's a good cook. Then we all worked out. Oh joy. They only made me do the warm-up, which is more than enough of a workout for wimps like me.

Then Art and I went to Bellingham (about a half-hour south) to do some grocery shopping and other shopping. I bought a couple of cute tops, at Art's suggestion. Oh, did I mention that he has better style than I do? I am totally comfortable letting him pick out my clothes for me. (He's basically perfect, if you haven't noticed).

When we got back from shopping, his dad and sister were there. I watched Art and his two siblings play guitar hero. I opted to not join in. Between working out, and Art teasing me all evening while we were shopping, I figured it was enough humiliation for one day.

Overall: relaxing, and I spent a lot of money. I hope this doesn't become a trend, because I'll be out of money before my vacation is half over.

May 19, 2008

Day 1: Arrival

Day 1 (Sunday): Art picked me up from the airport. I was actually surprised to see him, because I didn't think he was going to be there right away. But he got off of work early, and it was sweet.

We made it across the border with no problems at all. We were completely prepared with all sorts of paperwork, proof that I wasn't crossing the border illegally, and prepared to answer all sorts of questions, and none of that happened!

I had been praying for so long, and it's not like I lost faith in God, but I was still nervous. He told me He would answer my prayers, but knowing that He will answer, and actually seeing that answer come about are two very different things.

So we got to his house, and his parents were there. We all went out for dinner at this new seafood restaurant that's really close to where Art lives. Now for those of you who don't live on the coast and think that seafood is disgusting: you haven't tried real seafood until you've eaten it fresh from the ocean. This restaurant was practically on the beach. Eating seafood on the prairies is not a true experience. Anyway.

Art and I shared a bowl of shrimp (and we had to crack the shells off first, which was messy but fun). It came with a marinara cocktail sauce, so it was nice and spicy. We also had a bowl of clam chowder, and Oh Sweet Lord, that chowder was amazing!!! Then it was on to shrimp and crab fettuccine alfredo.

Art's mom had a plate of mussels. I was very apprehensive about trying them, but I did, and it wasn't so bad! So I tried another, and I swear that is the last time I will have mussels ever again. The second one tasted like feet. Wrapped in seaweed. Yucky.

Oh, and the dinner rolls at this place are TO DIE FOR. Twice.

After dinner I watched Art and Joe skip rocks for about 20 minutes. I skipped rocks for about eight seconds. Well, I tried to skip rocks. I suck at it.

Overall: really really good first day.

May 18, 2008

Eight Crazy Days

I'm in Washington with Art. The fact that I'm here (and that I got across the border without any hassle) is a complete miracle. I got here this afternoon, and I'll be here until next Monday. Don't expect a lot of blogging from me. :)

I'll be too busy going on dates and trying new foods. And working out. And staring at Art, because I haven't seen him in a couple of months.

Yay for vacations.

P.S. It's so BEAUTIFUL out here!!! I won't lie: I'm glad I'm moving here.

May 16, 2008

And Speaking of Productivity...

I didn't sleep last night.

Correction: I slept from 12-2, then Art called and we talked for an hour, and then I couldn't get to sleep until 7am, or something like that.

So I've been up for just over an hour, and I know that I have to wash the dishes for my mom, clean my room, and walk to the bookstore (against really really strong winds) to get my paycheque, and then go to the bank (where my mom works), and spend a lot of time waiting in line (because it's Friday) and then annoy my teller with all the things I have to do.

Art told me I have to work out again. And I thought I was going to do some work for my dad at some point.

CLEARLY I'm not going to get all these things done. First priority is the paycheque and bank, because it closes at 4:30. Then, I guess the dishes? Thankfully, there aren't that many. Then my room. Then working out.

Work for my dad? Maybe it'll get done tomorrow. Maybe. If I get a proper sleep tonight. Oh, did I mention how tired I am?

May 15, 2008

I Am Dilbert

Does anyone know the Dilbert comic strip?

It's an office satire, about how nobody can get any work done, and their boss is unrealistically incompetent.

If you don't know, here's an example of how a Dilbert comic strip would go:

-I need to calculate the yearly budget.
-But in order to do that, I need the latest budget calculating program, which I don't have.
-So I have to buy the latest budget calculating program, but I can't do that until I know if it's within our budget.
-I don't know if it's within our budget, because I haven't calculated the yearly budget yet.
-So I need to calculate the yearly budget first, but I can't do that because we don't have the latest....

You get it, right?

That's kind of how I feel right now.

I have a day off from the bookstore, but I promised to work for my dad. My dad has an at-home office, which is a hopeless mess. I would LOVE to clean/organize it, but I can't clean it without him around, because despite the crazy disorganization, he claims to know where everything is. If I start reshuffling things, I'll probably "lose" something, and I get in big trouble.

If I start throwing things out that I think are unimportant, I get in even bigger trouble. So I can't start cleaning until he's home, and he and I are rarely home at the same time.

Since he isn't home to help me, I decided to not tackle the office, but work on his monthly receipts instead. But I can't find the book that I use to write everything in. It's somewhere here in his office. Looking for it would require a "shuffling around" of papers, which I can't do, because dad's not home.

ZERO PRODUCTIVITY MUCH????

May 14, 2008

Schnell schnell!

Work was good.

I'm done sticker picking.

I have a day off tomorrow.

I'm going to youth group now: ARK Night (Acts of Random Kindness).

No time to talk. Gotta go!

Wokin' Woman

I kind of have another job. For this week, anyway. We have a small bookstore in our town, and I've worked there now and again, helping out on the till. It doesn't get terribly busy, but the store makes most of its money through internet orders and church libraries - they buy in bulk!

When I helped out on Saturday, I learned that he (the owner) just got in a huge shipment, and it all needs to be sorted and sent out to those who ordered.

Part of that process involves taking off the old price stickers that are on every book. Most of them come off pretty easily, but all of them leave a sticky residue that needs to be cleaned off as well. Yay for a little product called Goo Gone. It's an oily product, meant for removing sticky residue off of things. It also claims to remove artwork from your walls that your child may have put there, and apparently it works for getting makeup out of clothes too!

So anyway, the owner has several bottles of that stuff, because they use it all the time.

But back to those price stickers. They ALL need to come off. So. For eight hours on Saturday, I ran the till (for the few transactions that there were), and I picked stickers off of books. Man, my fingers were SORE. And since we only just got started on Saturday, I went back again to today to continue helping. I PICKED STICKERS for EIGHT HOURS.

And I'm going back tomorrow, and the next day, until it's all done. Am I crazy?! Well, he needs help, and I need money. It's fairly quiet in there, and my mind does a good job of wandering, so surprisingly, I didn't get too bored. Although I definitely wished I had an iPod.

I'll probably be more than sick of these stickers by the end of the week, but I'm not in a position to complain about how I can make money at this point in my life. Plus, I'm taking a vacation soon.

Have I mentioned that yet? Well, I knew that as soon as I was done at my other job, I was taking off to visit Art. My plane leaves Sunday afternoon, and I'll be back eight days after that. I can't wait!

But anyway, all I wanted to tell you is that sticker-picking is my life, and I'm ending this blog to go spend time with my niece who is here, and sounding very cute in the other room.

May 8, 2008

The End

Today was my last day at work.

I'm so happy!!

May 5, 2008

Closing Time

It's all over now. :) Yay!!!!

So what happened last week? I forgot to tell you. I went home, as you know, and I ate breakfast and took a nap. I was only home for about two hours. Our CFO called me at 11:00 and told me that the office was open again. I don't think they needed the police, I think our landlord let us in. And I also found out that it wasn't our landlord, but the Board of Directors for the building, that kept us out. Our landlord was simply the bearer of bad news.

But we got back in the office at 11:00, and spent the rest of the day frantically packing up files. If there was going to be trouble again today (Monday), then we wanted all the important files to be out of the office. So basically, nobody got any actual work done.

And today? Same thing. Except this time, we were told to pack up EVERYTHING. The receivers couldn't believe that it actually came to this, where we would be locked out of our own office as a threat or something, and they didn't want to stick around our office any longer than necessary. So they said we might as well shut down the office now, instead of waiting until the middle of May.

The company is going to continue shutting down from an office in Winnipeg. So the company technically isn't closed yet. But our office is. We emptied our desks of absolutely everything, unplugged our computers and brought them somewhere else. And our phone has been forwarded to another number out of the office.

I am no longer a receptionist. And I am perfectly okay with that. I'm actually going back to the office tomorrow to help another girl clean up stuff. So today was kind of my last day, but kind of not. I could have opted to not clean up boxes. But I don't have anything else to do.

And of course, the longer I work, the bigger my paycheque. There are very few of my former coworkers left, and they will continue to finish up in Winnipeg, but I can't (no car), and there is nothing for me to do there anyway, and no matter, because I don't want to go work in Winnipeg.

So tomorrow, it's grub clothes and no makeup, and hard labor and dust, and I should be thoroughly worn out by the end of the day.

Now all I have to do is wait (and pray) for the lawyer to return Art's messages, letting us know how I can cross the border. As soon as I know that, I'm outta here! Well, for a week. I'm dying to take a vacation, I think I've earned one, and I WILL see Art one more time before the wedding.

I am truly happy. I am out of a job, and I'm so happy!! :)

It Just Gets Better and Better

So. I was going to blog about how I'm sick of my job already. That there are never-ending problems, that I keep making big mistakes and getting reprimanded for them. I was going to complain about how much I don't want to be there anymore. Which you've all heard before.

So I'm not going to blog about that. Because what happened this morning trumps it all: I arrived at my office to see all of my coworkers, and the receivers standing around outside the office. The office is dark, the door was locked, and there is a sign on the door: "The locks have been changed and all alarm codes deleted."

Love, the Landlord.

We are locked out of our office. Can you believe that? And for the life of me I can't figure out why. I don't know what their problem is. We paid them another half-month's rent. We've always been on good terms with everyone in our building. I don't know what possessed them to change the locks on us. They can't keep us from our work. We still have jobs. It's not up to them. What they're doing is actually illegal.

So now I'm at home, waiting for another receiver to get a court order from a judge in the city, to present it to the landlord (who is conveniently not around, and impossible to get ahold of) to tell him that they have to open the doors for us and let us in. If the landlord doesn't comply, or if he still can't be found, then the police come and use their own methods to let us in.

This could be fun.

It's just so unbelievable though!!! The CFO told everyone to occupy themselves - go for coffee, go for breakfast, go home and take a nap, or do whatever. It could take a while. So I'm at home. Blogging. Then I'm going to have a proper breakfast, because I didn't have one this morning. And then.....nap? And just amuse myself until we get back into the office, or have a day off!

No, I'm sure I won't have a day off. We have to get into the office, because today is payday, and the cheques are in there. Whatever happens, I'll be sure to update you.

Wow.
