A Small Accomplishment

Well, I got some cleaning done. I cleaned all day, until Art got home at 7:00. He told me that house looked great, which I think is funny, because I didn't necessarily think the house looked any cleaner.

I did a lot of less obvious cleaning today, like scrubbing the stove and the cupboard doors, and reorganizing my closet, and under the sink in the bathroom and in the kitchen. Just in case the new renters actually want to look in those spaces (which they might), then they look clean and organized.

However, since I spent so much time on those things, I still have some major stuff left to do, like glass cleaning (mirrors and windows), the whole bathroom in general, the kitchen floor, dusting. Oh, and the carport. But that's Art's job.

He doesn't really like it when we're home together in the evenings and all I do is clean, because that's our only time to spend together these days, but unfortunately this week, it's going to have to be that way, until after Wednesday.

It's hard though! Cleaning comes so naturally to me, and once I get on a kick, I don't want to stop. I just love how good it feels to have the whole house scrubbed and sparkling. But I just found out that we're going out soon, so I can't continue. I must stop here (and maybe try to get a bit done tomorrow).

Have a great weekend ya'll!

I'm Gonna Be a Machine

Art is out of the house all day, so I'm cleaning. And if I said it here (and on Facebook) then I'm accountable, so I HAVE to get it done.

And if I come back here later on and I haven't done any cleaning, you guys can beat me up. You have my permission.

I NEED TO CLEAN!!!!!

No More Aliens Here

No, I'm not talking about little green critters from outer space. I'm talking about me! With my first visa that got me into the US, my status was Alien Resident.

Key word being "was."

I had my interview today. And I am now a Permanent Resident.

NO MORE PAPERWORK!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for all your prayers and encouraging words. It was quite easy! I brought all sorts of papers with me and I didn't even need them! The lady interviewing us basically wanted to know 2 things: the story of our relationship (to make sure Art didn't say something like, "I found her on a Mail Order Bride website"), and what we shared jointly (like a bank account, lease, etc.).

She also wanted to see our wedding pictures, and she kept two for the file. No big deal, we can always print more. At least she didn't keep my favorites. We printed about 100 pictures to bring along today, and we have about 700 more that we haven't printed yet, so two is not a loss. (No seriously. Our wedding photographer took over 800 pictures. And they all look good.)

So that was our day. I took the whole day off because I didn't know how long it was going to take, and I didn't want to promise my boss that I could work a bit, and then realize I was going to be gone all day. But now I've had a bit of a free afternoon, and I'm spending it with Art, which we never do anymore. Poor guy is still really sore and tired from the weekend. I think he'll be recovering for a while.

Our landlady is showing our house to potential renters next week, because our lease is almost up, and we're pretty sure we're moving before the end of summer. I'm not worried (right now), but I do have A LOT of cleaning to do before Wednesday. I might start today.

So that's all the happy news for now. Mari is here. We might blow bubbles.

This and That

Well, Art and Joe and Wayne made it up and down the mountain safely. They got home reeeeally late Monday night. The didn't reach the summit because the weather was just too nasty. I hear they all honestly thought they were going to freeze to death, but they survived.

My camera did not, unfortunately. I promised myself I wouldn't be mad about it though, because Art's safety and well being are more important than a camera.

I really shouldn't be blogging 20 minutes before I leave for work, but I wanted to do a quick little update. It seems that's all I have time for these days. I'm realizing very quickly just how easy it is to be away for 12 hours straight. If ever I end up doing something after work, then there goes my evening. I come home and basically just get ready for bed.

I have finally uploaded the pictures from the last month or so; hopefully in a few days I'll be able to put up some pictures posts. And then that will be the last of the pictures for quite some time.

My greencard interview is tomorrow. So of course, I was frantically trying to gather everything together last night, to see if there was anything we needed to print or photocopy. Art will be taking care of that today. And the printing of some of our wedding pictures! Finally!

Yes, we haven't printed any wedding pictures yet. We also haven't sent thank-you cards. But now that I have a job, and since printing at Costco is so cheap, we'll be able to do that. Maybe before our first anniversary.

Okay, I should get off of here and make my breakfast and my lunch. Happy drizzly Wednesday!

P.S.

I almost forgot. I ate a walnut today. Well, that's not entirely true. I chewed a walnut today. Then I spit it out. I guess we'll be adding walnuts to the list of foods I don't like.

My Life is Made Up of Little Moments Like These

We bought a ton of fresh, organic fruit at an outdoor market the other day. So much produce, not so much money. Yay for us. I ate a mango yesterday for the first time in months (since mangoes are so expensive, we never buy them). It was heavenly.

We also bought a pint of raspberries. I ate them all, because Art doesn't like raspberries. Yay for me.

I cut into a very bruised, almost rotten apple this morning. Not-so-yay-for-me. My breakfast ended up being 2 eggs and no fruit at all, since I was running a little bit late. This evening, I tried again. Cut into an apple, to eat it with peanut butter (my new favorite snack/dessert). This one was also quite bruised, and a bit dry. So that's two for two. But I ate it anyway, because I couldn't bear the thought of throwing another one away.

I have been hearing constant hammering since I got home today. Come to think of it, I have been hearing occasional construction noises since I moved here. From the same house. And I don't mean that a house is being built. I mean that there was a house already there, and yet, something is constantly being built. A lot of something. I think they might be addicted to construction.

I had a great day at work today. I entered a lot of orders, and I didn't have a ton of questions. Days like today really make me feel like I know what I'm doing. Of course, the last time I had a day like today, the next day ended up making me feel like I didn't know anything. It just happens sometimes, I guess. I hope tomorrow doesn't do that.

My favorite moment from work today was when our database froze. Which would normally be annoying, but it was down for so long that we all ended up having a good 20 minutes to just sit around and chat.

Normally, there isn't a lot of talking in my department, except if it's work-related. Which is a good thing. It means we work hard. But it makes getting to know my coworkers that much more difficult. Today, I felt a little bit more like one of the team. It's a nice feeling.

I came home to the nicest treat ever: a note from Art telling me to take it easy, and do nothing tonight. HE's going to wash the dishes. Considering how much he hates doing the dishes, it's pretty much the awesomest thing I could hear from him.

I cheated a little on the taking-it-easy part though. Just a little bit. I vacuumed. But that's it. This is actually one of the first evenings in a quite a while where we have no plans, and no people coming over.

It's weird to think that just a few weeks ago, I was bored out of my mind, and wondering when the monotony of staying at home all the time would end. Now I'm constantly wondering if I'll have time to do even do laundry, or shower before it's too late in the day.

Finally, I get paid this Friday. It's still not a full 80-hours, but it's going to be the biggest payout we've seen around here in quite some time. We can finally start building up our savings account again.

Oh, and I think Art is climbing a mountain this weekend. The same one Joe fell down last September. Let's all pray they have a much safer journey this time. I suspect I'll be a bit bored this weekend, and probably a little anxious. Maybe I should stop cleaning right now, so I have something to keep me occupied come Saturday.

Ah, who I am kidding. I'm addicted to cleaning. Okay, enough typing. My eyes hurt.

June 12, 2009

Four-Eyes?! More Like, Three-Eyes.

Just quickly dropping in quickly to say a few things. Hopefully this won't turn into a long, drawn-out babble-thon, mostly because I stare a computer screen all day for work, so I really don't want to be on the computer when I'm at home.

So........I think my right eye died. Or something. I've been wearing my glasses lately because my eyes have been a bit sore. Today I decided it was time to put the contacts back in. Big mistake. I had only been at work a few hours before it (my right eye) started to hurt a lot. And by the end of the day, it was very red, and I think people were giving me funny looks. Thankfully, only one person asked me about it. Kind of embarrassing.

Mari picked me up from work, and took me to Wal-Mart to get eye drops. I've never used them before, but I didn't know what else to do. I was basically dying until I could get home, take out my contacts, take off my makeup, and use the drops. I'm not sure if they're working or not. I'll put in some more before I go to bed.

In other news, guess who's working tomorrow! Yeah, I know, how nerdy am I? I'm actually excited to work overtime, on a Saturday no less. But like Art said, "Gotta make that money!" Yeah, he's pretty excited too. June is the busiest month at our company, and work really piles up pretty quickly. Almost everybody else that I work with has already put in lots of overtime hours this past week. So they're hoping to kill the last of the work tomorrow, so that on Monday, they can have some breathing room.

I'm not actually working in my own department, which is okay, because that computer screen can't be good for my dead eye right now. And also too, it's cool to get out of my department, and experience other parts of the company, and get some cross training, and meet other people. I don't get the chance to meet other people from other departments with the job that I do. We're a bit isolated.

Here's some funner news: Sozan got the game Redneck Life, and we played it last night. Yeah, you know The Game of Life? Same thing, but redneck style. SO. AWESOME!!!!!! So hilarious. Greatest game ever. Go out and buy it and play it with your friends, and laugh. Role the dice and get yourself a name like Cletus Joe. Marry a guy named Bubba Jr. Have 6 red-headed stepkids named Daryl. Buy a car that looks like a slug. Buy a home that looks like a bus. Whoever has the most teeth at the end of the game wins.

You know you want to.

Okay, so of course I am completely incapable of writing a short update. But now me and my zombie-eyed self are getting off this laptop, and probably going to bed. Hopefully. My head is starting to hurt too.

Movie (Also Known As: Moobie)

So we were at the beach yesterday. Like you didn't already know that. But that's not what I wanted to talk to you about today.

What I wanted to talk to you about is a movie I saw on Saturday night. We watched Up.

You guys. I do NOT normally recommend movies to people, because I know that everyone has different tastes. Just because I love Little Women, doesn't mean everyone else will. But when it comes to Up, well, basically, YOU ALL HAVE TO SEE THAT MOVIE!!!!

I am absolutely, 234% CONVINCED that it is THE perfect movie. Kids love it. Teens love it. People my age love it. Middle-aged folks. Reeeeeally old people. The theater we watched it in was filled with filled with people from 3yrs - 93yrs.

It was just really amazing, okay? It touched my heart, and I teared up more than a few times, and....what a story. So please go see it. You will not regret it. I promise. Money-back guarantee. Well, I mean, I don't actually know if the theater will give you your money back. But they won't need to, because you will love it as much as I do.

That's all I have to say about that. I'm gonna go look for some more food to eat.

Lovin' Summer

I swear I haven't forgotten about the blog.

I was telling my mom yesterday that it seems as though blogging generally slows down in the summertime. And I mean other people's blogs. I remember last summer, always wondering why people weren't updating as often.

And now I have become one of them. It's summer, the sun is shining, the weather is gorgeous, we live near a beach, and I don't feel the need to be on the computer as much. So even though I'm technically busier, and therefore have more to blog about, expect less blogging from me for a few months.

I'll still have my camera, I'll try to remember to take pictures and videos, but mostly I'll be too busy having fun.

Speaking of the camera, I have been trying to upload some recent pics and videos to put on here to show you guys, but this stupid old laptop has decided that it suddenly doesn't want to do that for me, and I'm more than a little irritated. Looks like I'll have to revert to the annoying drama that is Trying To Upload Pictures Onto the Desktop Computer Where the Screen Is Too Dark To Properly See the Pictures I Have Uploaded.

Fun times.

I don't have a clever ending to this post, but I'm considering washing the dishes, even though I really don't want to, which means I'll probably end up reading.

June 1, 2009

What?!

Just because I have a job doesn't mean that I'm suddenly busy all the time and have no time for blogging! Or cleaning the house.

Except that's exactly what's happened. :)

Of course, I started my job again on the same day as my birthday party, so I was busy preparing for that, and then recovering from it. And Sozan's birthday is tomorrow, so I'm busy preparing for THAT, and then I'll be recovering from it.

Also, I've been carpooling with Mari, because she's in school, and it's close to where I work, so it's really convenient. And then when she picks me up after work, we hang out. And go to the mall. And go grocery shopping. And by the time I get home, Art is ready to leave the house and go hang out with other people.

So yeah. I've made a drastic switch from doing practically nothing day after day, to barely being home at all during the day. But it's been nice. I'm sure I'll get sick of it eventually; there's only so much socializing I can take before I need to rest and be by myself.

Also, there's only so much busyness I can take before I freak out at how messy the house is, and how I haven't washed the dishes in 3 days. I guess that means that this evening happens to be my "down time", and I'm using it for cleaning. As you can tell. Because I'm on the computer, blogging.

Finally, I would like to tell you that I love my job. My hours have increased this week, from 4-hour shifts to 6-hour shifts. We've transitioned from doing work at someone else's computer while they watch over our shoulders and give us tips, to doing the work on our own computers, and constantly asking questions. And then our work gets double-checked, and they tell us if we missed something, and we correct it.

Isn't that fascinating? Anyway, I like my department, I like the people in it, and I like what I do. I'm still feeling pretty confident, although it probably just depends on the day. Last Friday, I dealt with some pretty strange "situations" that we hadn't really encountered before, and then I couldn't even take notes, so I have no idea what we did, or how to deal with it in the future. So it's great that they encourage millions of questions.

And I won't lie: it's nice to be wearing my cute office clothes again.

Okay, I seriously need to get going. I swore I was going to vacuum before the day is over, and it's getting dark, and I have a feeling Art will want to go sleep early.

P.S. It's 80 F (25C) here these days.
