I'm surprised my right arm isn't completely useless.
Because we went bowling yesterday. 10-pin bowling. Not that I needed to specify that. But most of the bowling alleys in Winnipeg are 5-pin, so that's what I'm used to. I've only been 10-pin bowling once before.
It was tons of fun. Guys against girls. And I don't know that I could say who won, because the teams were uneven. There were 4 guys and three girls. BUT. I got 90 the first game (which means I beat the girls, and most, if not all, of the guys.) I don't normally do that. I've never claimed to be a good bowler. Which I proved in the second game with a nice low score of 57.
But the last game? Mari and I tied for second with 100. I can't remember the last time I got 100. I even beat ART. I'm quite proud of myself.
We came back to our place so I could serve Joe his birthday brownie (he turned 20 on Monday). Yes, I made brownies. Cheesecake brownies. Impressed yet? Don't be. It came from a box. All I had to do was add a little oil, water, and eggs. But it was very yummy.
My fingers definitely hurt from clinging to that 9 lb ball. I'm sure there were lighter ones, but the place was crowded, and most of the people were drinking beer, and I'm a little hesitant in those situations, so I didn't have the guts to venture out and find an 8.
It was a pretty good evening. Very fun. We all agreed that it's something we should do more often. Maybe we'll even make t-shirts!

More Food For Thought. Literally.
It seems that since I got married, I'm suddenly facing my least favorite foods more and more. Does that mean that Art likes all the foods that I don't like? They say that opposites attract...
I decided to compile a list. Here they are, in no particular, my most detestable edibles:
Zucchini - My mom insists that it has no taste. I insist that she's lying. (Just kidding, mom)
Lemon(s) - Which got its own post.
Cottage cheese - Art made me taste it with pineapple. It didn't make it any better.
Onions - They make me feel gross.
Blueberries - I know, it's practically the same as hating puppies. Which I don't.
Nuts - My mom likes to snack on almonds. Art likes to snack on cashews. I like to snack on NOT those things
Dill pickle chips - I don't actually know a lot of people who like this flavor. My favorite is All Dressed. Sadly, you can't get them in America. And I know I only live 15 minutes from the border, but we are not driving to Canada JUST to get some chips. Also, they're not good for you. :(
Bean sprouts - My mom made me and my sister eat them once. It took us all evening. Why, mom? WHY?!
Brussels sprouts - What's funny is that I used to love them as a kid. What was wrong with me?
Bologna - Something else I ate A LOT when I was a child. With ketchup. Are you gagging yet?
Crest toothpaste - Okay, okay, it's not a food. But the taste just gives me the heeby jeebies.
Avocado/Guacamole - I tried it. I don't like. The end.
Broccoli - I'll only eat it raw, with dip.
Cooked vegetables in general - see above.
Mussels - I tried one, and it wasn't bad. I tried another one, and that was the end of that.
Cabbage - What can I say about it? I don't like it. That's why it's on this list. Duh.
Spicy peppers - Because they're spicy. And spicy doesn't make me feel good.
Cranberries/Cranberry juice - Makes my mouth dry.
Asparagus - yep.
Salmon - This one is kind of iffy. I've had it twice where it was absolutely delicious. And I've had it a bunch of times where it was bland and gross. When faced with the choice at a restaurant, I almost definitely won't pick this for my entree.
Fettuccine Alfredo - Okay, so it's not my least favorite food. But I prefer pastas with other sauces, like marinara. Alfredo is so................thick. And heavy.
French toast - I don't know why. Really. I don't.
Waffles - Again, not my least favorite. If I had to choose between waffles and salmon, I'd definitely choose waffles. But they're so filling! I eat one, and I'm full for half the day.
Popcorn - Salty or sweet, doesn't matter. I'm not a fan.
Bagels - I think it's the "thick and heavy and filling" factor.
**Okay, you're going to have to help me with this one. You know those snacks that moms love to serve at kids' birthday parties? They're kind of like cheezies, but they're white, and kind of styrofoam-y? And they have funny shapes? Anyone? Well, I HATE those with a PASSION. Even when I was a kid. Grossness all the way.**
Black licorice - I don't think I have to explain this one. Only really special people like black licorice. (If you're one of them, I mean no offense.)
Sour candies - My sister looooooooooooooves Sour Patch Kids, and Sour Skittles, and the like. I much prefer not sour, and chewy. Like Ju Jubes. Mmmmmmmm...
M&M's - Well, I don't hate them. But I grew up with Canadian Smarties, and to those I will be forever faithful.
Ice cream - Well, that's not really true. I do like ice cream. Especially gelato. But if I had to choose between ice cream, and some other sweet, like cake or pie or cookies or candy, I can pretty much guarantee I'll pass up the ice cream. Except for Oreo ice cream. That I'll eat a whole tub of, by myself. Art? Valentine's Day?
Well, that's all I can think of for now. That's a pretty long list, actually. Hey, I have an idea. Why don't YOU make a list of YOUR least favorite foods, and why. Or most favorite. Or something. I'd like to read it.

Super Cleaner Strikes Again
It is not a good idea to go on a cleaning kick at 9:30 at night. Two hours later, when your husband announces that it's time for bed, you say, "But I'm on a roll! Don't stop me now! I'm having such a good time! I'm having a ball!" (Quick: what song do those lyrics belong to?)
Also, you might end up cleaning for 20 minutes before you realize that you cut yourself and that you're bleeding. Which means that you are at risk for an infection. Not that that happened or anything.

Pillow Talk: Episode Two
*Last night, right after I turned off the lights*
Art: "Whoa. It's dark."
Me: "Yes, Art. That's what happens when you turn off the lights."
Art: "Shhh. Never mind. I was just thinking out loud."
*I get under the covers and Art snuggles close to me*
Art: "Mmm, you smell good. You smell like car fresheners."
Me: ???????????????????????

Who Says Tomorrow Never Comes
For a few days now, Art has been saying "we'll do it tomorrow" about a few tasks that I have been DYING to do. But, I am at the mercy of the people with the vehicles. And drivers licenses. But for once, that tomorrow actually came true! Today! As in, Art said yesterday, "we'll do it tomorrow" and we did it today, and today is (was?) yesterday's tomorrow. Does your brain hurt yet? Good. Moving on.
The day started out normal. We went to church. Then we went to Subway for lunch with our Subway points card, all excited to get free food, and it turns out that we DON'T have tons of points on the card. There's a grand total of one penny on that card. Art's mom has some explaining to do.
We ended up paying for our lunch, which I wasn't really happy about, but the guy apologized a bunch of times, and the food was good in every way. The Subway that is just across the border is my favorite Subway. I'm seriously considering working there when I get my greencard.
We took our sandwiches over to Wayne and Sozan's, had a quick lunch, and then high-tailed it home to pack the bed of the truck with all our garbage and get to the dump before it closed. Fun times. I'm seriously considering NOT working there when I get my greencard. I pray it never becomes my last resort.
Ooh, we also did our taxes today! Well, we started the process, anyway. And I don't know why I used an exclamation point, because it wasn't exciting at all. It's a complicated process, even when you have some guy at H&R Block do it for you (who, by the way, looks almost exactly like that stapler guy from Office Space. Except this guy isn't socially inept. Just nerdy-looking).
Anyway, we still have to call in a bunch of information before we can file. And also? It seemed to take forever for him to decide how to classify me. Because I'm a dependent. But we're not filing jointly, because I didn't have an American income. And I'm a non-resident alien. Which is different from a lawful permanent resident. And I moved here halfway through the year. And I had an income in Canada before that.
Apparently, he had several options, and they all make a significant difference as to how much we get back. It doesn't make any sense to me at all, but it doesn't have to. Because that's his job.
I learned that there are certain H&R Block offices around here that can process Canadian income taxes as well, and I'm very relieved. Even if it's expensive, it's totally worth it. I mean, I tried to do it myself last year, and I was hopelessly confused, and I made a huge mistake (which turned out to be a good thing), but I don't want to attempt it this year.
How do you fill out your form if you only had income for half the year, and then you got married and moved to a different country where you suddenly have no income at all? Kat? Do you know the answer to this?
Enough about that headache. Our final task of the day was grocery shopping. It's amazing how much you can spend, even when you're only buying stuff you truly need. Okay, so buying coconut milk wasn't a matter of life and death, but we're trying to eat healthy, while also finding ways to make it taste good.
I hate money.
I am determined to clean my entire house today and tomorrow, and keep it clean for the weekend. Because this weekend is the fight of all fights. Followed by the Super Bowl. Both of which are happening at our house.
Well, we're watching both events at our house. It's not like two of the greatest fighters of all time are coming over and duking it out in our living room, and then next day, two NFL teams are doing the same. Which would be way cool. But really crowded.
Stay tuned for more episodes of my housewife life!

Making Something of Nothing
Okay, so we didn't go to the dump today. I guess we're going on Monday. If we still have the truck. Which we might not. Because Art's parents might come up tomorrow. Because Joe's birthday is on Monday. He'll be 20.
Also, I'm seriously considering "taking down" our Christmas tree. 'Bout time, EH? (And by "taking down" I mean, taking the ornaments off, and then putting the tree in a box. Fairly simple). Boy, we sound lazy.
Also, our phone doesn't ring. So if you've been calling incessantly, and leaving a million messages, I can't get to those right now. I'll just pretend that I'm so important. What? Answering the phone? That's below my pay-grade.
My poor mom. Called me twice, and couldn't figure out why I hadn't gotten back to her. Thinking I don't like her anymore, for no reason at all. Thinking that I'm just ignoring her. We're okay now. I called her. After she left me a Facebook message. I tried to convince her to send me a puzzle in the mail. I think it may have worked.
We might go grocery shopping. We really need to. Art was desperately trying to piece together a healthy meal, and he finally kind of succeeded with beans and eggs. Now we sound lazy AND poor. Let's buy some groceries Art. Okay?
Okay.

I Lead Such An Interesting Life! Seriously! Read On!
So I got dressed in regular clothes because I thought I was going out today, and then I didn't do anything after all. How annoying is that.
(Seriously, if you didn't have a job, or a car, and only a few friends, and all those friends either work or go to school, so you're pretty certain that you're not going to see anyone, wouldn't YOU stay in your pajamas all day?)
I finally did the dishes today. Which means I didn't do them yesterday. Because I didn't feel like it. And then I sat around yesterday evening whining to myself about how bored I was. But I didn't want to do housework. I wanted to do something fun! But I was alone. So playing a game was pretty much out of the option. And I don't want to develop a split personality from playing board games with myself.
Guess what we're doing tomorrow: going to the dump!! I know, I finally get to leave the house for an actual reason, and this is why. Exciting, is it not? But seriously. The garbage just builds up in the carport, and we have the truck, and Art just got his car back (yay!), so his dad wants the truck back. Which means we gotta make hay while the sun shines.
And I'm sorry to tell you that I did not separate garbage from recycling. Cardboard boxes were flattened and stuffed in big bags with whatever else is considered "real" garbage. I support recycling and all, but considering how crappy our garbage and recycling program is....I just didn't want to deal with it. I am not green. Which isn't completely awful, because I don't believe in global warming.
*GASP*
Yes, that's right. I think it's rubbish and nonsense. The earth's temperature fluctuates constantly, and we can't do anything to help it or hinder it. Co2 is good for plants, it makes up such small percentage of all the gases in the atmosphere, and our earth will not burn up because of it. So there you go. Relax. If you're going to make "green" choices, do it for your own personal and financial health. Not because you think you're helping to save or destroy our globe.
Well, enough of that controversy. I have some vacuuming to do, and I've been putting it off for FAR too long. I'm ashamed that I let our kitchen floor get so bad. That ends right now.

I Will Not Be a Prophet When I Grow Up
Remind me not make predictions about the future. Apparently, I'm not very good at it.
At the end of yesterday's post, I "foretold" the next two hours. I said that I would take a shower, and then have friends over to watch a conservative talk show.
Well, thankfully, the shower part was true. But when Art got home from work, he was the only one who walked into the house. My friends never showed up. So much for that plan.
Also, yesterday was the first full day of our spending freeze, but we still found a way to have Subway for dinner: a free Subway card with tons of points on it. But wouldn't you know it. When Art went to pick up dinner, their internet was broken!!! So..........................he had to pay.
C'mon God. A little help here?
In all fairness, he could have refused to pay, not taken the subs, and cooked something at home instead. But we were both looking forward to it, and it was our half anniversary. Plus, there were cookies. Cooooooooookiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeessss......................................................
Sorry, back to reality.
Anyway, we'll mark this as a flub, and vow to never let it happen again. I do have to say that I don't entirely regret that it happened. It was so worth it. Plus also too, it was all part of the celebration. After we ate our subs, we decided to watch a romantic movie called I, Robot, and we finished off our New Years pink champagne. With orange juice. Yep, our lives are definitely the stuff of fairy tales.
Speaking of mimosas, did I ever tell you guys that we drank them every day on our honeymoon? At breakfast? It didn't occur to me until the third day that we were drinking alcohol in the morning, and that that is not considered "normal behavior." That getting drunk* in the AM is "frowned upon." That people might view us as "alcoholics." I think it's time to stop using so many "quotation marks." (Chris Farley? Anyone?)
*That was a joke. We never got drunk. One mimosa at breakfast, and another at dinner, could not do that to you. Unless you were an extreme lightweight. Like, even more than I am.

Sundry. Assorted. Miscellaneous. And Other Synonyms.
Have I been on vacation or something?!
Sorry for not being around lately. There really hasn't been a lot going on around here.
Art's dad came over last Monday to bring Art's car to a non-idiot mechanic. Still waiting to hear something from the guy.
Art has had a couple of interviews. We haven't heard anything, so I guess he didn't get either of those jobs.
I was going to have a girl movie night last Friday, but then it didn't happen. Kind of bummed. I have been trying to vaguely plan one for months, and then we finally picked a day, instead of just saying, "hey, we should get together and watch these movies!" And I was REALLY looking forward to it. But it was not so. My friends came over and we watched Prince Caspian instead. Followed by We Own The Night. Great movies, great friends, but still. Not what I had hoped for.
The next day was UFC 91 at our place. I know it might seem weird that I like UFC. I don't see it as horrible and violent. These guys are highly trained fighters. Like boxers. Or wrestlers. Or anybody who practices any form of martial arts. Except that these fighters are trained in all of the above. Which is why they are called Ultimate Fighters. The big one is coming up on Jan.31, and I am beyond excited. It's gonna be huge.
Yesterday, I talked to Art, and we decided that we are going to get serious about money. We're officially going on a spending freeze. We will not buy anything that we do not absolutely have to. And I want to tell people, because then we don't have any of the, "why won't you go out for dinner with us?" awkwardness. If people know in advance, then we have their support, and it will make it that much easier.
Also, Art called to cancel our phone and cable services from Comcast. We're switching our phone service to Vonage, and just keeping internet with Comcast. We're going to be saving a lot of money that way. We really don't watch tv, except for UFC fights (which only happen once a month) and the Super Bowl, which only happens once a year. And other people have tv's.
Today is our six month anniversary. We're calling it our Half anniversary. Someone on Facebook asked us how we're celebrating. I told them that we had a romantic day of doing the dishes and laundry, and now he's at work. I'm joking, obviously. Not about what we did today. But about how those activities count as a celebration.
Art's mom gave us a Subway card with tons of points on it, and it will get us, like, three free footlongs. Since they are discontinuing the points very soon, I suggested that we use it. So he's bringing me free Subway. THAT is how celebrating is done, folks. :D
Oh, and I'm a little more than halfway done my second puzzle that I got for Christmas. I think I've been working on it for over two weeks. It's HARD!!! But in a good way. I am determined. I will conquer it. It will get finished.
We haven't taken our Christmas tree down yet. What am I waiting for, inspiration?
I swear, when I started typing this post, it was perfectly sunny. Then I look up from my laptop, and this huge, thick fog rolled in from nowhere. Crazy.
And now your life is complete, because you know everything that happened in my life these past seven days. As a bonus, I'm going to tell you what will happen in my life in the next couple of hours (barring an earthquake or Jesus' second coming): I'm going to take a shower, and my friends are coming over to watch a Conservative talk show. Can you feel the excitement?

And Here's To You, Mr. President
I wanted to give a shout out to Holly at Seeking Faithfulness. She wrote a farewell post dedicated to George Bush that is kind and respectful. Since she closed the comments to that post, I decided to give my thoughts here instead. I know that liking President Bush isn't exactly popular opinion, but I don't care.
He was still new to the presidency when America was attacked, and his response ensured that no further attacks have been made. That was no small feat on his part, yet he has not been given the credit he deserves.
I, for one, would like to echo Holly's thoughts. Thank-you, Mr. Bush, for all you have done these past eight years. We owe you our lives.

My Other News
Remember when I was all happy and "praise God" about finally sending away my paperwork? To get my greencard, which grants me Lawful Permanent Residency in the US? That happened the week before Christmas.
And then we didn't hear anything.
Normally, when they get something, they send you a Notice of Action. And they tell you what's up with the papers. We waited and waited for one, and we didn't get one. I wondered if maybe it was just taking a long time, because we did send it just before Christmas. I tried not to worry.
Then, last Friday, we got a large envelope in the mail. It felt rather thick. And I knew, before I even opened it, that it was every piece of paper I had sent them.
Sure enough, we opened it, and there on top of all my paperwork was the Notice of Action we were waiting for, and it said Rejected in nice, big, bold letters. Believe me, seeing that word elicits all sorts of warm fuzzy feelings. Like.........rage. Or maybe just very strong exasperation.
We read through it, found out what they wanted, and thankfully, the problem is easily fixed. Art thinks I'm being a drama queen about it, but it's my paperwork, so I have a right to be dramatically annoyed.
When we sent out the very first piece of paperwork for my visa, we got a Notice of Action for that one as well, only it said "approved" on it. So now, for this new process, they want that original Notice, along with everything we already sent them. They want it as proof that a visa petition made on my behalf was approved. Which it was. Because I have a visa. And I sent them a photocopy of the visa that I have. You would think a photocopy of my visa would be proof enough. But it's not. Because they're picky. Or thorough.
I actually understand the reason they need that one extra piece of paper (and don't worry, I won't attempt to explain it to you. It's complicated). However, it's just a bit disappointing. It's a setback of another month. Another month where I'm stuck at home, not working, not contributing to our already paltry income (not for lack of effort on Art's part. I think he's applied for every available job within 50 miles).
Of course, with the recent crash of the economy, it looks like having a greencard wouldn't help me anyway. So it's just as well. Oh, and they sent back the money too, which is a huge relief. If we had to come up with another thousand dollars, my adjustment of status would never happen.
I had Sozan photocopy the Notice for me (since they want us to keep the original for our records), and she'll be bringing it over tonight. I'll add it to the stack, and we'll try sending it out again tomorrow.
It's a comfort to know that in a year and a half, I'll be done with all of this. Of course, that's when I plan on starting the "fun" process of changing my name....

News Bites. Bytes? Bits?
I bought a bathrobe on Thursday. I've been wanting a bathrobe for quite some time now. I went shopping with Sozan, and Wayne's brother Phil, and we stopped in at American Eagle, and I saw it, and it was on sale. So I bought it. It's not made of terrycloth. It's made of something WAY softer. It's white. It's perfect. So just as soon as I wash it, I can wear it.
On Friday, I finally had a chance to go to Mount Baker! My new winter boots came in, and Sozan has an extra pair of snow pants and a matching parka. In bright yellow. I couldn't get lost if I tried. We purchased a few snow saucers, packed a lunch and a change of clothes each, and headed up to the mountain for a few fun hours of sledding.
Actually, it's almost a miracle that we got to go at all. We got an unusual amount of snow in December, and then it melted. Plus, it's been raining a lot. There's quite a bit of flooding around here, and along the main road up to Baker, there was even a huge mudslide. The road opened mere hours before got there. I have never seen a mudslide before, but I saw the effects of it. Unbelievable. Messy. So many trees and houses ruined. Cleanup will last for weeks.
In other places, large parts of the road are covered with deep water that is just shallow enough to be considered drivable. One of these "puddles" proved to be too much for Sozan's car. It took the rear bumper off. Yes, that's right. Her bumper FELL OFF. This doesn't say so much about the water as it does about her bumper, which was attached by a wire on one side, and plastic screws on the other.
It sucked then, but it's kind of funny now. We were forced to leave the bumper in the ditch. (Did you know that you can get a ticket for not having a bumper on your car? It didn't happen, but we were all afraid that it would. I have never heard of that before. It's not like it's a key ingredient for safe driving).
On Saturday, I was sitting at home, all comfy in my pajamas, happily occupied with the laptop, when suddenly my friends showed up at my house. I had no idea they were coming over, so I was a bit embarrassed, especially since it was 2:30pm. In my defense, I wasn't planning on doing anything that day besides cleaning, so why would I need to change my clothes?
My friends didn't stay for long, but just before they left, they informed me that I was going to Oak Harbor. I looked at Art (who had just gotten home from work) and asked when he had planned on letting me know. His reply? "We're leaving in an hour. And you need to pack some clothes. Because we're staying overnight."
We need to work on this advance notice thing. He should know by now that I like to plan ahead, and even when I plan on doing nothing, to me, it's still a plan. In HIS defense, he didn't have much notice either. A friend of ours from Oak Harbor texted Art while Art was on his way home from work, and asked us to come down to meet his new girlfriend, who was visiting from California.
Of course, Art isn't as much of a planner as I am, so he was fine with the short notice. But I had a lot more to do than he did in terms of getting ready. I had to put on makeup. I had to go from schlumpy to beautiful, and pack for an overnight stay, in less than an hour. It didn't happen.
Despite the sudden change in plans, the weekend was quite fun (other than sleeping on the hard floor at Art's parents house). Cameron's girlfriend is very pretty (and very nice). We had pizza, played Apples to Apples (which I can never get enough of), and watched Rocketman. Also, Art had a ton of sugar and caffeine. And he doesn't exactly need help in the "getting hyper" department.
We went to Art's former home church this morning (which is also where we met for the very fist time), had Starbucks and Chinese "buppet" (buffet) for lunch, and hung out with Art's parents' friends for a couple of hours. They watched a football game on a HUGE flat screen TV. Huge. Probably as wide as I am tall.
So yeah, it's been a pretty eventful four days. I have more news than that, but it deserves its own post. Mostly because this one is already long enough. I gotta learn how to be more concise. And just in case you're wondering what my "more news" is, I'm not pregnant.

Diet Math
Art and I had this conversation at 12:30 last night:
Art: "So...........16 x 7...............so that's..............112? Yeah, 112. Jenene, remember that number."
Me, sleepily: "112"
Art: "Wait................that's not right. Uh....................16 x 0.7! What's that?"
Me: "11.2"
Art: "Okay. Wait. Something's missing....................................Oh! It's 160 x 0.7."
Me: "That's still 112."
Art: "Right. So 160 x 0.8.............so that's 80 + 48.............so that's 128. Okay, so, 128 - 112?"
Me: "112"
Art: "128 - 112 is................16? 16. Wow. That's almost a two-block meal."
Me: "I really wish I knew what was going on."
Art: "Well, I'm just comparing different activity levels."
Me: "Never mind, I don't want to know after all."
Art: "You don't?"
Me: "Well, not right now. I'm afraid you'll explain it me."
Yup, this was last night's pillow talk. Did I mention it was at 12:30 at NIGHT? And for once, I was actually tired by that point. I went to bed before Art, and I fell asleep JUST before he came to bed and started up with calculations.
The math actually makes sense. I have a vague understanding of what he was doing, but it hurt my brain to try and think about it at that point. It has to do with calculating carbs vs. fats vs. protein in each meal. He does the math to make sure each meal is balanced. I leave it up to him, because I don't think I could ever grasp the concept.
Aren't we just the nerdiest couple you've ever heard of???

Best Friends and Beef Jerky
As I've said in the past, when Art's parents come up, it's like a feast! They must think we're starving, because they always bring so much food. This time I guess there was a sale on beef jerky, because they brought up four large bags - two for each household. We got teriyaki and original. So we'll be working on that for a few months.
And speaking of things totally unrelated, my best friend from Edmonton just started a blog! I'm very happy about that, because she's been reading mine, so she knows all about my life. When we talk on the phone, she already knows what I'm going to say! Okay, not quite, but what I'm saying is, it'll be nice to follow along with her life now too.
She's attempting some pretty tough resolutions, so you should go on over there and show her some support.
:D

My Tongue Hurts
We're at Mari and Joe's right now. I haven't been here for a while, actually. We used to come here all the time. What happened? *shaking my head*
Art's parents were up for a few hours, so we stopped by to eat all the food they brought up (like they usually do). Art and Joe and Wayne and Phil went to REI to pick up some stuff, so we girls had a chance to watch Monster-In-Law. Very cheesy movie, but kind of funny. Oh, and REI is an outdoor sports goods store. Like, kayaks and sleeping bags and tents and bikes and gear and stuff. Phil is going to the Ukraine and to Lithuania next week. No big deal. Did I mention that he just got back from Thailand?
Anyway, once the boys got back and the movie ended, Mari and I went to her room, turned on the webcam on her laptop, and had a Warhead candy taste test. Just in case the name doesn't give it away, they are FREAKING SOUR CANDIES!!!!!!
There are five flavors: Apple, Lemon, Blue Raspberry, Black Cherry, and Watermelon. We wanted to determine which one was the sourest. And also record our hilarious facial expressions. You should have seen me freaking out. I can't wait until that video goes up on Facebook. If I can convince Mari to also put it up on YouTube, then I can link to it and show you guys. It's crazy. I particularly freaked out with the Lemon one. I thought that one was the most sour.
Yeah. That was my evening. My tongue really hurts now. I don't recommend trying this at home, unless you're tough like Art, and sour candies don't shred your mouth. Just some friendly advice.

So. New Years.
Was slightly less exciting than I thought it was going to be. I went grocery shopping at 5:00, got back at 6:00, and then hurried to get myself and the house clean before our guests arrived at 8:00.
Which none of them did.
Wayne's brother Phil got back from Thailand on the 31st, so Art and Wayne went to pick him up. They were the first ones to arrive, at 8:30. Joe* had to work in the morning, so he didn't come to our party, which I think was silly, but whatever. Mari* never showed up either, for mysterious reasons that shall never be known. And Sozan had to work until 10:00, so she showed up a little later.
So it was just me and the guys, for two hours. Watching them each on their own computers, being all nerdy and anti-social. And I did a puzzle. Which I guess makes me nerdy and anti-social too.
When Sozan finally showed up, it took another half hour to coax people into playing a little Apples to Apples. I had kind of hoped for a fun game night, but settled for a fun game hour.
We counted down with the TV and watched fireworks explode off the Space Needle. And had pink champagne mimosas. And I got my very first New Year's kiss, which might not seem like a big deal to most people, but while we were dating, not being with Art for New Year's royally sucked. I had been looking forward to that moment for a very long time.
So despite the fact that our party was less than spectacular, I'm still glad I got to spend it with Art and our friends.
*They made up for it by joining us this evening for a rousing game of Would You Rather. Fun, thought-provoking, and potentially controversial board game, if ever there was one.
