Why I Haven't Been Blogging Lately

1. I've been sick. I think I'm finally at the tail end of this cold.

2. I've been reading the Harry Potter books. Now that we've watched all the movies, I'm a little bit obsessed. It's been about one week, and I'm already on the fourth book. (I found a website where I can read them online! For free!)

3. When I'm not reading Harry Potter, I'm reading birth stories, because I'm a little bit obsessed with that as well. But that's a blog post of its own, so that's all I'm going to say about that.

4. Art and I are going through Financial Peace University. It's changing our lives. Do you want to get out of debt permanently and build wealth and know that your family and your future will be secure financially? Because you can. It's not a get-rich-quick scheme. It's tedious, it takes a lot of discipline, patience, sacrifice and hard work, but it's possible! And worth the time and effort.

5. I may not have published many posts lately, but I'm actually working on a few of them (not that that does you guys any good). Two of them involve uploading videos, and the whole uploading process is being quite stupid. (I'm trying to put together a three-month update, and I swear, by the time I finally post it, Sophia will be a year old.)

Another is actually a guest post, and for that post, I'm determined to include a nice, current picture of me with Sophia. However, since I never go anywhere, I seldom take the time to get dressed, never mind putting on makeup and such.

Not that I actually have the time to do this, because my little girl can't stand to be left alone for more than a few minutes. It makes it quite difficult to get in a decent shower more than a couple of times a week. And speaking of showers, that's one of the things I was hoping to accomplish today. Sophia looks to be getting quite sleepy, so hopefully it'll happen within the next half hour or so. *Fingers crossed, praying fervently*

A Series of Events - Tale #5: Sophia's Betrothed

Once upon a time, I had (and still have) this beautiful friend named Mandi.

Here's another angle:

That is a preggo belly, in case you were wondering. A little back story: our husbands became friends just out of high school, and we became friends when we started going to a Bible study together, a little over a year ago. They got married last summer (in fact, their anniversary is coming up in a few days), and announced their pregnancy shortly after we announced ours.

They don't live close by, but we all go to the same church, so I still got to see her on a regular basis. I'm so glad I had a close friend that was pregnant at the same time. It was great going through our pregnancies together.

After I had Sophia, she came by on a weekly basis to see me and my little girl. She LOVES babies, and was getting her fill until she had her little boy came along (she was nine weeks behind me). The above pictures were taken on May 26.

Two days later (on my birthday!) she had this little guy:

His name is Zachary Adam.

This is Sophia and Zachary on their first date:

You see, the four of us had an agreement: if our babies are the same gender, they will be best friends. If they are opposite genders, they will get married. We had a girl, they had a boy, and I can hear those wedding bells already. ;)

As his future mother-in-law, I appreciate the points he tried to win with me by being born on my birthday.

(Mandi's boys)

It's hard to believe that these moments took place more than three weeks ago. They grow up so fast...

A Series of Events - Tale #4: My Birthday

Once upon a time, on May 28, I had a birthday. I turned 26.

And before I go any further, let's get these pictures out of the way. Because these are the only two pictures I took. How seriously lame is that? We had this whole weekend thing with our friends at Art's parents' place in Oak Harbor, and the only time I pulled out my camera is when she was sleeping face down on a giant pillow in a sleeper bag thing.

(Btw, we never put her to sleep on her tummy. This was Art's mom's doing, and it was perfectly safe, because the pillow was too stiff for her to suffocate. Plus she knows how to lift her head. Plus we kept checking on her. Plus she didn't stay asleep like this for very long.)

So. Wayne and Sozan, and Art and Sophia and I all went down to Oak Harbor, to Art's parents' place on Friday, May 27. We all stayed the night, and hung out there for most of Saturday.

Art's mom already had a ton of food cooked, and she cooked even more the next day. We watched a movie or two, and a lot of TV (especially Mythbusters). The weather was beautiful, so we spent some time just sitting out in their yard, enjoying the sun.

I didn't sleep well, so the next day, while everyone went shopping, I napped with Sophia. I think I was a bit of a party pooper. However, it gave Art's mom and Sozan an opportunity to buy my birthday gifts. I got clothes, which I was thrilled about. Especially because they fit! I wasn't there to try them on, so they guessed, and got it right! So now I have a pair of capris, a tank top with a knit vest, and a matching purse!

It was pretty low key, which was just fine. Going out to Oak Harbor was as much going out as I wanted to do.

After dinner was over, and after one more episode of Mythbusters, we left Art's parents' house, and went to see Wayne and Sozan's uncle, who lived in the next town just north of Oak Harbor. We weren't there for very long, but the little time we did spend there was a lot of fun. He's already super cool, and bonus: he loves babies! You just don't expect a 50-something year old guy with three grown kids to be a baby person. I'm not even a baby person!

Anyway, he lent us the first six DVDs of the Harry Potter series. I hadn't seen any of them before. Not because I'm opposed to them. I just never got into them. But the last Harry Potter movie is coming out in July, and Wayne's uncle wants us all to go see it together. Which means I would have to watch all the other ones first. So we took the DVDs, chatted for a couple of hours, said our good-byes, and promised to return soon.

And that was my fairly uneventful, photo-less birthday! I have to say, it didn't really feel like my birthday. It didn't even feel like May! The weather has been less summery than we would like, so it just seemed weird that I was having my birthday! Hopefully the weather smartens up and we can experience a true summer.
