Tongue-Tied

Oh Dear! My problem has gotten even worse!

When I first started blogging, I wrote a post on how I answer the phone at work, and how sometimes the words just don't want to come out. (I would put up a link....except I don't know how).

Anyway, I work as a receptionist, so the way I answer the phone represents my company. So when I can't answer it properly, I feel foolish, and I feel like I'm not living up to my potential, or living up to my employers' expectations.

So, when I wrote that blog (way back in March if anyone actually cares to go look for it), I wrote about how I couldn't say these words correctly: "One moment please."

I say this when I'm transferring a call, which, by the way, is what I do with EVERY call that comes in. "One moment please" usually comes out sounding like "Wuhmomeh please." I just need to slow down and relax!

Well, "one moment please" is no longer a problem these days. My new problem? Introducing the company name. I've started stuttering!!!! I'm absolutely mortified! I seriously practice my words when I'm not actually answering the phone. In fact, I've started picking up the phone randomly and saying the words, so that when I have to answer the phone for real, it'll come out the way it's supposed to.

But when there's actually someone on the line, it just doesn't happen! I don't get it! What is wrong with my mouth these days?! I've started praying about it, and if you feel so inclined, (once you're done laughing), can you please offer up a prayer that God would work out my mouth to be able to answer the phone properly? After all, it's only MY JOB.

Wedding Plans

One of the executives of the company I work for asked me this week if I was stressing over wedding plans. I said yes, albeit sheepishly. He seemed a bit shocked, and told me to relax, that I should enjoy my engagement for awhile.

Oh, I AM enjoying my engagement! But consider these facts:
a) I'm a girl
b) I knew I was going to marry Art from the beginning
c) I'm a girl

I have been planning this wedding for well over a year now. So now that my engagement is actually official, I'm eager to get on with the plans! And I'm not really that stressed. Most things that I have to plan are already in my head, just waiting to be made real.

The only thing I'm really stressing about right now is the Guest List. Need I say more? Next week I'm meeting with the lady that runs the hall where I'm having my reception, and I would like to give her a semi-accurate number.

I know that revisions will be made to this guest list as the weeks go by, but I'd like to get it out of the way now, so that revisions won't be a nightmare later on.

So, what else have I accomplished in the 3 weeks since Art popped the question?

- Booked the church
- Asked my bridesmaids to be my bridesmaids
- Bought invitation paper (just yesterday actually)
- Booked a photographer (I'm meeting with her tonight)
- Started thinking about songs that we would like to have at our dance

Of course, we must add this list to the things I got accomplished BEFORE he popped the question:

- Bought my wedding dress. And veil. And tiara/headband. And shoes (which I had already)
- Picked a day and booked the reception hall (the dates fill up quickly!)
- Found music that I may potentially walk down the aisle to (accidentally, I was just listening to music, and there it was!)

And then there are the things that I already know, but they haven't materialized yet:

- The MC
- The officiant
- The center pieces
- The flowers
- The church decorations
- How the processional is going to go
- Where I want our pictures taken
- Where I want the invitations printed

Oh yeah, you know it. This thing will be planned by Christmas. Well, probably not, but I'm so excited and eager, I probably COULD have it all done by then. I'll keep you updated, hopefully with pictures in the near future.

The Proposal

Okay okay okay okay okay, I guess I really need to have a separate post about the proposal, in more detail. So if anybody was wanting to hear a better story, here it is. And, if you are on my Facebook, then you may have already read my note there. This is from that Facebook note, verbatim.

This is how it went down, as far as I remember.

My plane landed in Vancouver on Thursday evening, Sept.13. Art drove me to his home after picking me up from the airport. I was SO hungry, so all I could think about was food, and I kept begging him to go out to eat, or just to get some food somehow. But he wanted to show me his place first.

I had just bought a CD, so I put that music on, and he showed me around. The best and last thing he wanted to show me was his "fireplace." (It turns on with a switch, so it's not really real, but I don't care, it's still sweet that he has one.) So he got the "fire" going, turned off the lights, and we sat down on the floor in front of it, cuddling.

Then I remembered that I had got him some exclusively Canadian treats, and I asked him if I should go get them. He said, "no, just stay here for a while."
And then, "I actually got you something too."
Me: "Really?"
Art: "Yeah, I have a gift for you........and a question."
Me (on the outside): "Ok." (on the inside): "YAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!:D:D:D

So he popped the question, I said yes about 83 times and hugged him and squealed and kissed him and squealed, and then he said, "you haven't even seen the ring yet!"

My reply? "Idon'tcareIloveyou!!!!!"

But then he got the ring out and put it on my finger (at that point I started crying. In a good way). Then he had another surprise for me.

He had his brother and his friend set up the fire pit in the backyard, and we went out there and roasted hot dogs, and marshmallows for smores, and it was dark and quiet, so we could see the stars, and it was just absolutely perfect. I mean, I love my fancy dinners at nice restaurants, but I was SO hungry, and also I didn't want a public proposal.

This was private and intimate, plus it was at his house (which will eventually be our house), so my first memories there are sweet and romantic.

The date is set for July 19, 2008. I can't wait!!!!
