A Series of Events - Tale #1: A Trip to Seattle

Once upon a time, a few weeks back, we had to drive down to Seattle to the Dept of Homeland Security so they could take my fingerprints and my picture, because my greencard is up for renewal. I was really nervous, because it's a long drive, we had to leave early in the morning, and I was afraid we would be dealing with a very fussy Sophia.

But she was great! She slept almost the whole way down, waking up just as we were arriving at the USDHS. I managed to pump a couple of bottles for her as we were driving, and hoped it would be enough.

Art dropped me off, I went inside the building, and he drove off, with Sophia, to get some coffee. I prayed that the process would go quickly, and that she wouldn't put up a big fuss (because the bottle just isn't as nice as direct from mommy).

When I was all done and Art returned to pick me up, he said she had taken half of the first bottle and was perfectly content!

After that we headed back to the coffee shop (and to a little market nearby) so we could get something to eat. Then we went to the park (as pictured below). It was one of the first nice spring days we had, and we made the most of it.

We wanted a cute picture of her among the pretty flowers. She couldn't appreciate the effect.

After spending a couple of hours in the park, soaking up the sunshine (and attempting to make my very first daisy chain, which kept breaking), we headed to...a mall. I'm trying to remember which one, but there are a lot of malls. This one had a P.F. Chang's restaurant in it, which is one of Art's favorite restaurants. We had a late lunch there, then headed home.

We probably should have gotten an earlier start, because we ran into rush hour traffic. (Rush hour starts early just north of Seattle.) I was out of bottles by this time, and even though I had just fed Sophia before we left, she started fussing right as we were coming to a crawl. I told Art to bear with the crying as I quickly pumped one side, frantically got it into a bottle and into her mouth, and hoped she would be satisfied with it long enough for me to pump the other side.

I needn't have worried. It ended up being enough for her, and as we slowly made our way out of the traffic, she fell asleep, and didn't wake up until we were almost home.

All in all it was a really great day. Everything worked out wonderfully, and now I'm just waiting for my new card to arrive in the mail!

Summertime!

We are finally getting some proper summer weather around here. We've been going to the park almost every weekend. This weekend we went twice!

Sophia seems to enjoy it. We certainly enjoy trying to make her as cute as possible. These flowers are from a magnolia tree.

Unintentional Absence

I haven't posted in forever. And I hate it. Because stuff has been happening, but you guys don't know anything about it.

Mothers Day happened, and we even have a few pictures.

My mom visited.

My best friend from Alberta visited.

I had a birthday.

We had Memorial Day weekend.

I got a bunch of books and magazines. (Probably one of the reasons I haven't been blogging. Netflix is the other reason.)

My friend had her baby, Sophia's future husband. I have pictures of their first date. :)

So even though it feels like my life is nothing but breastfeeding and laundry, I have actually been doing things. I'll try my best to record these things here. After all, I have this blog for a reason: to share my life with far-off friends and family, and anybody else who wants to read about it.
