Drugs, Flowers, and Babies.

I'll address the obvious first: I'm sure you all noticed the ticker up there. For my sister's new baby. Due at the beginning of November. I made it blue because I'm convinced she's having a boy.

Yesterday I had my drug test for my new job. Since I have three times as many Canadians reading this blog as I do Americans, let me explain: I guess it's a pretty common thing down here (in the US) to do a drug test before you begin your employment.

For the Americans who read this blog and are thinking, "Yeah. Duh", let me explain: the only Canadians doing drug tests before they begin employment are those in government jobs. I have worked at a factory, a restaurant, and an office, and I have never had to do a drug test.

I don't know why it's so common down here, and I don't know why it's so uncommon up in Canada. I'm not complaining. Just making an observation. It was easy, and I'm definitely not worried about passing.

They bumped my start date back, because they just got flooded with a ton of work, so they can't train the new people and finish all that at the same time. I'll be starting on May 19. So I still have nearly two weeks.

In other news, I unraveled the button coaster. I got more than halfway done, but I realized it just wasn't working. Unfortunately, I wasted a lot of yellow thread, but it only cost 39 cents. I still have 12 more colors to choose from.

In conclusion, this is the current flower situation in our yard.


These little blooms appeared on some thorny bushes on the other side of our carport. The bushes looks pretty bland the rest of the year, but are quite rewarding at the moment.



So far, this is the only bloom of its kind. There are at least two rhododendron bushes that will come out with bright pink blooms, but this guy got quite a head-start.



There are a lot of these rhododendrons. Which is fine, except they're blooming on the bushes in the back corner of the house that absolutely nobody sees. Meanwhile, the rhododendrons in the front yard are taking their sweet time. Mostly because they get more shade than the ones in the backyard. But still.

I Think It Speaks For Itself

I have a ton of pictures to post from the last week or so, but it'll have to wait because right now I have more important news to tell you:

I GOT A JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty insanely excited, if you couldn't tell. I had my interview today, and I got such peace about it over the weekend. (The retreat was amazing, by the way. Love Beth Moore.) I was completely calm and relaxed while I was talking to the two women interviewing me.

The positions that were open were data entry and customer service. They asked me which one I preferred, and said data entry, and that's the one I got! It's still seasonal, of course, but with data entry, there is potential to be kept on as a relatively permanent employee.

It doesn't pay a whole lot above minimum wage, but I don't care. I'm just so stoked that I got hired! All these months of waiting and hoping and praying, and now I'm finally working. I can hardly believe it.

Along with the enthusiastic "Praise the Lord!" comes another prayer request: figuring out transportation. Art could drive me there on most days, but picking me up could be a challenge, since he has a few evening classes that start right when I would get done. But God has known all along, He already has it figured out. The trick is getting Him to tell me what the plan is. ;)

I'm kidding, of course. I know very well that I can't trick God into doing anything. But that doesn't mean I won't try.

Retreat

Well, I'm all packed up and ready to go. The nice ladies at the church offered to pay my way to the Women's Retreat this weekend. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to go. It's a Beth Moore retreat, so I know it'll be great. (The Bible study that I was a part of last fall was a Beth Moore Bible study).

We'll be staying at the Firs Chalet on Mount Baker. Jealous yet? I'm very much looking forward to it (even though Sozan can't be there).

I'll be getting picked up any minute now, so I just wanted to wish you all a great weekend, and hopefully I'll use this time to sort things out in my head about the job interview. Thanks for all your prayers and kind comments. You guys are da bess <--(a little Filipino accent for you).
