They Say The Third Time's A Charm

So Thursday. Thursday evening was my second attempt at Girly Movie Night. My first attempt failed miserably.

We rescheduled, I cleaned the house, made sure that Art wasn't going to be around, invited the girls over, cooked some pizzas and cupcakes, and prepared for a fun evening. Finally.

Mari arrived first, but forgot the movies, so she went back home to get them. Sozan and Wayne arrived about 45 minutes later than they had planned. And notice I said "Wayne." Yup, he was there. With a project to keep him busy. A woodworking project. He was sanding a long plank into a specific shape. On my living room floor. DURING the movie. (Oh, and by the time we actually got the movie started, Art was home).

So we watched the movie as best we could over the noise of Wayne's project, enduring silly remarks from both boys.

Can you guess what happened next? As soon as the movie ended, Joe arrived, and the guys popped in Live Free or Die Hard. Perfect. I can't think of a better way to follow up a Keira Knightley 18th century period drama than with an unrealistic amount of car crashes, explosions, and people constantly getting shot, or shot at. It was bliss. (You do realize I'm being incredibly sarcastic, right?)

There was one small highlight to the evening though. Mari and Sozan taught me how to knit! Sozan brought over an extra pair of chopsticks (because she doesn't have any knitting needles), an extra ball of yarn (a beautiful creamy white yarn, and very soft) and got me started.

Of course, when the guys crashed our girly movie night yet again, we moved our little knitting party to the hallway behind the living room, turned on the bathroom light so we could see better, and carried on, amidst the sounds of violence and testosterone.

It's been almost two days now, and I'm am slowly but steadily on my way to making a scarf. I'm quite proud of myself.

We have already started talking about our next girly movie night. But next time, I'm going to be adamant: NO. BOYS. ALLOWED!!!

Apparently I Wasn't Done Talking

I was going to update the post below, but I decided just to write a new one. I was going to say that I started a new novel 24 hours ago, and I'm already nearly done, so having no cable is already benefiting my brain and my health.

Also, Art just got home from Jogo, and from grocery shopping, and he got me chocolate! I heard once that when you start eating super healthy, eventually you don't crave all those unhealthy foods, and that's mostly true. I don't crave fast food or anything greasy or fried. BUT. I crave chocolate now more than ever. Which is better than last year.

Last year at this time, I had been eating SO unhealthy that I stopped craving sweets completely. In fact, the very idea disgusted me. My friends were shocked. "You're a woman and you don't like chocolate?!?!???!!! That's not possible!!!" I found out that it was. Not a good time.

So anyway, I guess Mars Bars don't exist down here in the US of A (except in some gas stations) so Art got me something close. I think. 3 Musketeers. I don't think I've ever had one before. I'll find out in a few minutes.

Speaking of Art, since he started taking his diet seriously, along with his already crazy workouts, he's lost 15 pounds in a few months, and something like 7% body fat? It might be less than that, but it's still really good. Basically, he looks REALLY good without a shirt on. And that's all I'm gonna say about that.

Happy February!

Have you noticed that the days are getting longer? I have. I realized that I'm closing our living room blinds later and later. Don't lose hope! Winter will end!

We had quite an exciting weekend. Well, more exciting for Art than for me. The fight of all fights was on Saturday, and Art invited some of his friends from Jogo (the gym he works at), along with our regular group of friends. It was a full house! Lots of great food, thanks to everyone who brought a little something with them. And the night wasn't an upset either! About time!

An upset is basically when the guys you are cheering for lose their fights. The past couple of months have been a string of surprising upsets. But Saturday's Fight Night didn't disappoint. And of course, the main fight of the evening, GSP (Canadian) vs. BJ Penn (Hawaiian) was a good fight. GSP won, by the way, which makes me extremely happy. And not just because he's Canadian. I truly believe he's the better athlete, and he more than proved it.

Sunday was the Super Bowl, of course. I thought we were going to have a small Super Bowl party here, and boy, was I right! Only Wayne showed up. And Mari, around halftime. I ended up taking a nap, I was so bored. I'm really not into football, and I can only be bothered to watch it if there's a chance to socialize at the same time. The Steelers won, and that's who Art was cheering for, so I cheered for them too. I guess it's pretty obvious which sport I prefer.

In my defense, following football is confusing. I can't keep track of multiple men at the same time, I don't know where the ball is half the time, and I can't tell when someone has done something right or wrong (aside from touchdowns). When you watch a fight, you only have to watch the two guys. The guy who is landing more punches and kicks is probably winning.

Anyway, enough about sports, that's not what you guys come here for, and it's not what I come here for either! The beginning of February marks the end of something else for us: cable TV. Comcast showed up today to take the cable box and remote control. I turned on the TV a little while ago to see if there were any local channels, and it was nothing but fuzz.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not sad at all. I'm not one for watching TV, and besides that, we're saving money. We also have plenty of movies to watch, which I prefer anyway. So this is a good change.

Also, our phone got switched over to our new provider today, so it works again. Mom, feel free to call anytime. And anyone else. Call me. My phone works.
